Montessori Beginnings


Explore a thoughtfully prepared Montessori environment alongside your child (18-36 months) and an experienced Montessori teacher.

Each week includes two connected sessions:

  • In-Person Parent-Child Class: Mondays, 9:30–11:00 a.m. at RPMS (1800 W Balmoral)
  • Evening Parent Discussion: Once a week via Zoom (to be scheduled with participants)

Ages: 18–36 months (with one parent; same parent each week)

Parent-Child Times: Mondays, 9:30-11:00 a.m.

Class Size: Minimum 5 families / Maximum 14
Cost: $500
Includes: The Montessori Toddler by Simone Davies + reflection journal
Parent Evening Zoom Date/Time: TBD based on convenient time for families

What to Expect


In the Classroom:

  • Work alongside your child in a beautifully prepared Montessori environment designed for discovery.
  • Explore materials that promote movement, coordination, language, and concentration.
  • Observe your child’s growing independence and confidence in a calm, nurturing space.
  • Learn simple activities you can bring home to support Montessori learning every day. 18–36 months (with one parent; same parent each week)

In the Evening Parent Discussions (via Zoom):

  • Join a weekly virtual conversation with other parents and teacher Kara Pettyjohn.
  • Reflect on Montessori principles through a quote and discussion prompt.
  • Share insights and ideas from home and classroom experiences.
  • Deepen your understanding of Montessori parenting and how to foster peace, patience, and connection.

About The Teacher

Kara Pettyjohn is an experienced Montessori educator who has worked with children and families for more than eight years. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Science from Boston University, a M.A. in Early Childhood Education from Roosevelt University, and an Infant–Toddler Montessori Credential from Seton Montessori Institute, where she continues to serve as a paraprofessional trainer. Before earning her master’s degree, Kara taught environmental education to students from pre-K through high school in the San Francisco Bay Area. She brings a deep understanding of early childhood development and a warm, encouraging approach to helping parents apply Montessori principles at home.
